Dr. Jeanne L. Noble Delta GEMS              

The Delta GEMS (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully) is designed to plan, coordinate and supervise activities for young ladies in grades 8 through 12.  It is also a program that was initiated by our Past President, Jean L. Noble to catch the dreams of African American at-risk, adolescent girls aged 14-18. Delta GEMS provides the frame work to actualize those dreams through the performance of specific tasks that develop a CAN DO attitude. The goals for Delta GEMS are:

  • To instill the need to excel academically;

  • To provide tools that enable girls to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success;

  • To assist girls in proper goal setting and planning for their futures high school and beyond; and

  • To create compassionate, caring, and community minded young women by actively involving them in service learning and community service opportunities.  

To date, our GEMS have participated in the following activities within our community:

  • Sister 2 Sister Connection Mentoring Program: Delta GEMS, Academy and Chapter members have a Tri-fold relationship that promotes encouragement, growth and personal enrichment
  • Step Fest 2010: Delta GEMS & Academy participated to expose our youth to a cultural and Greek experience
  • College Readiness Workshop 2010: Provided information that dealt with our Educational Development Thrust and presented information to our youth for college preparation and future educational endeavors
  • Thanksgiving Holiday Service Project: Involved and exposed our youth to the concept of "giving"; distributed food items to a local, low-income community
  • Kwanzaa Celebration: Delta GEMS & Academy were exposed to our culture and history; provided extensive insight about an African American celebration and its principles
  • Upcoming Activities include: A Literacy Workshop, a Physical Health & Wellness Workshop and an Educational Symposium.
