Click HERE for the 2010 -2011 Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy Application! The Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy is a unique program designed for young ladies ages 11-14 years. The goals of the Academy are to enhance or spark interest in math, science, technology and/or careers where minority women are scarcely represented. The Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy's aim is to shape well rounded young women by offering mentoring, educational activities and service learning opportunities. Many young ladies have tremendous potential, however they are not afforded the opportunity to broaden themselves, express their curiosity, and experience new and different things early on. During Academy sessions, activities are centered on math, science, technology, literacy, and African American history. In addition to building character, self-esteem, and giving back to the community through service learning, field trips are planned and designed to enhance the knowledge of the participants in the identified focus areas. These young ladies experience endless possibilities. Delta Academy has embraced the Parent Empowered Active in Children Education (PEACE) module which is an initiative used to prepare the young women for the world while soliciting a shared responsibility from the community. The PEACE module focuses on parental involvement to enhance children’s development and success. The symbol for the Delta Academy is the Dream Catcher, which in Native American culture is believed to possess the power to capture bad dreams, entangling them in a web; thus allowing only the good dreams to pass through the center of the dream hoop into the person's being. To date, our Delta Academy young ladies have participated in the following activities within our community:

- Sister 2 Sister Connection Mentoring Program: Delta Academy, Delta G.E.M.S. and Chapter members have a Tri-fold relationship that promotes encouragement, growth and personal enrichment
- Step Fest 2010: Delta G.E.M.S. & Academy participated to expose our youth to a cultural and Greek experience

Thanksgiving Holiday Service Project: Involved and exposed our youth to the concept of "giving"; distributed food items to a local, low-income community

Kwanzaa Celebration: Delta G.E.M.S. & Academy were exposed to our culture and history; provided extensive insight about an African American celebration and its principles

Upcoming Activities include: Peace and Beauty Workshop, Participation with International Day of Service, an Educational Symposium and "All About Me" Olympic Day.
